I walk the same walk
behind my house
big trees, no cars, quiet.
I know how lucky I am

my busy mind finds the bad
knapweed, beaten trails
the throb of man’s machines
on a world so delicate

but the moon is there
somehow
suspended above the green line
in the cobalt sky

one day man will be gone
the weeds won’t matter
I know how lucky I am

I walk the same walk
behind my house
through the ball field with the one
craggy peaks in the distance
the one rolls in the grass
I know how lucky I am

dad’s phone goes right to message
out of service. good.
hopefully in utah with the camper
but, one day, it won’t be a desert trek

a pang of grief rises and fades
I haven’t had a withering loss
yet
I know how lucky I am
